ESR 15 - Andrea Coronetti
Short biography
Andrea Coronetti holds a Master's Degree in Space Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy and an Advanced Master in Space Systems Engineering from ISAE Supaero, Toulouse, France. He’s always been fascinated by space flight and has tackled very different thematics along his studies path. For his thesis at Politecnico di Milano he ventured to the United States, where he’s studied Rocket Science at the University of California, Irvine. His main task involved CFD simulations of combustion inside an hybrid rocket chamber. For his thesis at ISAE Supaero he’s started studying effects of radiation in space on human beings thanks to a collaboration with MEDES-Institut Médecine Physiologie Spatiale. His main task was to perform an engineering evaluation on an innovative shielding approach involving the reproduction of the Earth’s magnetosphere shielding on a human-sized space vessel.
Why did you apply for a RADSAGA position?
I got to know the problematics of radiation in space just recently thanks to my thesis at ISAE Supaero. I found the challenge caused by radiation kind of intriguing and I wanted to pursue a research in that very field. So I stumbled upon RADSAGA and other Innovative Training Network opportunities offered by the European Commission. Furthermore, I was looking for a new experience that could allow me to work abroad in a full international environment. RADSAGA ESR position 15 seemed the right opportunity at the right time for pursuing my research objectives and for fulfilling my desire of working in a broad international cooperation, so I jumped on and was lucky enough to be selected.
What are your future goals? How will RADSAGA help you fulfill them?
My long term career objective is to become a system engineer, possibly in the space field. I found that RADSAGA with its multi-level approaches to radiation could be a perfect match for developing a full set of skills in system engineering in the field of radiation. It will also allow me to see how different entities, such as agencies, international organizations, laboratories, universities all cooperate together and to build links among all of them that will serve me wherever my next position will be.
