ESR 02 - Daniel Söderström
Short biography
Daniel Söderström comes from a small town in the southwest of Sweden called Vänersborg. He moved to Lund (further south in Sweden) at age of 18 for study purposes. There, he received a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Physics with specialization on Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Physics. For his Master's thesis he worked in the field of experimental Nuclear Physics in spring 2016, focusing on neutron detection.
Why did you apply for a RADSAGA position?
I had my eyes on the RADSAGA project early on, many months before the applications opened. I had since quite a long time thought about doing PhD studies abroad after my Master studies, and has started to probe the market a bit for good-looking positions. When I came across the RADSAGA project, with its international focus, and possibilities to work at different facilities and locations across Europe, I knew that I wanted to apply for a position there. In addition, it was closely related to my field of study to boot, with a lot of nuclear physics applications and accelerator based experimentation to delve into.
What are your future goals? How will RADSAGA help you fulfill them?
The RADSAGA project will provide a lot of opportunities to meet new people and make professional contacts worldwide. This will help me integrate in and become a part of the community of radiation effects research, and it is an ideal stepping-stone for a continued career in the field, which currently is my goal for the future. I am happy that I was chosen for this position, and I will enjoy my time as an ESR in the RADSAGA project.
