Preparatory dosimetry and measurements for radiobiological experiments using the very high energetic electrons at CLEAR, CERN
Vanessa Wyrwoll (ESR4) has coordinated a test campaign of the new RADSAGA partner, the University of Oldenburg and PTW-Freiburg dedicated to the Very High Energy Electron Beam (VHEE) available at the CLEAR facility at CERN. With the help of Wilfrid Farabolini (CLEAR) and Antonio Gilardi (CLEAR), Dr. Daniela Poppinga (PTW-Freiburg), Rafael Kranzer (PTW-Freiburg), Björn Delfs (University of Oldenburg) and Vanessa have conducted the experiments at CLEAR while a group of researchers from Oldenburg participated remotely. The experiments were performed to determine the detector behaviour and response of clinically established detectors VHEE ultra-high dose rate radiation environment. The Device Under Test has been the Advanced Markus chamber, a very common and established plain parallel ionization chamber. As part of the dosimetry, radiochromic film measurements have been carried out to retrieve the exact dose applied on the devices.
Additionally, Vanessa was also able to perform some measurements investigating the effects of VHEE in short pulses on a radiation-hard ESA-SEU monitor, applying different charges per pulse and energies. All performed experiments have been fruitful and the users and facility are satisfied with the outcome.
